Wilbour Green chosen as 2017 MLK Jr. Parade Grand Marshal

Effingham County resident, Wilbour “Butch” Green, has been chosen as the 2017 Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Parade Grand Marshal and will lead the parade down its route on Monday morning.

There are many acitivities scheduled for the MLK Jr. Day celebration.

Beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Monday will be the MLK Breakfast at the Effingham County Recreation Administration Building, located on Hwy 119 in Springfield.

Following the breakfast as 10 a.m. will be the MLK, Jr. Day Parade, which will start at Laurel Street in Springfield.

At 12 p.m., the Children’s Award Program at the Effingham County Recreational Gym on Hwy 119 in Springfield will begin.

Lastly, at 6 p.m., an evening service will be held at the Pilgrim Association Center in Guyton. All are invited to participate in the events.

Friends of Manna House is fundraising in August to renovate the busy food pantry parking lot. The community is invited to shop donated décor and support the project.
