The annual Memorial Day program at the Veterans Park will pay special tribute to the veterans of World War II and to the members of the Alpha Battery, now deployed in Afghanistan. The program will feature special patriotic music presented by the choir of the Springfield United Methodist Church.

A special invitation is given to all WWII veterans to attend the program. There will be opportunity for the community to pay special tribute to those in our midst that help make up the “Greatest Generation.” Special remembrance will be given to three WWII vets, who served on the Veterans Park Board, Toni Freeman, George Usher and Henry Wilkins.

The members of Effingham’s own Alpha Battery also will be recognized. Information will be presented about their present status there.

The program will be held on Monday at 6 p.m. at the park on the Springfield bypass. The program will also feature a number of patriotic songs.
