Zack Norton honored by ECSD deputies

One of Effingham County’s strongest and bravest citizens, Zack Norton, was honored recently by an equally strong and brave group of Effingham County Sheriff’s Deputies.

Norton, who suffers from a rare form of cancer known as Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma, has been fighting the disease for a while and has been given just months - possibly weeks - to live.

On May 10, Zack’s mother, Amber Norton-Edenfield, was married - she moved up the originally planned date for her son - and Zack celebrated his mother’s big day alongside her.

Effingham County Sheriff’s Deputies helped Zack on his mom’s big day.

They picked him up from his home and delivered him to the wedding in a cruiser driven by Deputy Walt Lawson. As Deputy Lawson and Zack made their way to the ceremony, they passed a line of Sheriff’s Deputies with their sirens on full blare in his honor. They also made Zack an honorary deputy with his very own badge.

A celebration of life will be held for Zack on June 3 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Effingham County Fair Grounds.
