A thanks for annual memorial service

Dear Editor,

Thanks very much to our local citizens for your support and great attendance in spite of the rain at the Annual Effingham County Community American Cancer Society Memorial Service held on Nov. 8.

It was a service of remembrance for 10 citizens from our area with a memorial plaque dedicated to each one. About 60 were in attendance. The plaques will be added to the ACS Memorial Display at Effingham Hospital in the near future.

Thanks to all who helped make the service successful. We appreciate the participation of Rev. David Grandgeorge of Guyton Christian Church, Rev. Robert Crosby of First Baptist Church of Brooklet, and Sandra White and Joyce Ann Tuten, faithful local ACS volunteers.

The ACS is grateful to the Effingham County Board of Education and Superintendent Randy Shearouse for the use of the Board of Education Auditorium and Carolyn Conaway for preparing the area for our use. Special thanks to Joann’s Florist of Springfield for donating beautiful roses, one for each of the families in memory of Joann Rahn’s son Dwayne and for decorations for our stage.

Thanks to all in our community for your support of the American Cancer Society. Hopefully one day with more research, education, early detection and treatment, these services will no longer be necessary.

Please support our yearly fundraiser Relay for Life next May 6, 2016 at 7 p.m. at Effingham County High School.
