Senior communities would be a benefit

Dear Editor,

I was unable to attend the Dec. 11 Effingham County commissioners’ meeting at 3 p.m. I had spoken at the prior meeting for the need for gated retirement communities 55 and over.

With 55 and over communities, we don’t need to build schools. The residents will bring in spending money. I don’t think a golf course is needed.

I have been talking to builders and developers since 2000. I believe there is a real need. I appeal to the public to write their commissioners and the newspapers to let them know how you feel. The retirement communities will increase our tax base without increasing our cost base in building additional new schools in our county.
