Dear Editor,

We would like to express our deep appreciation and sincere thanks for a job well done to the Rincon Fire Department, Springfield Fire Department, Effingham Sheriff’s Department and the Georgia Forestry Unit for their rapid response and effective extinguishment of the woods fire which threatened our home Thursday afternoon. We would also like to thank Georgia Power for the rapid repairs made to the electric service to our residence

We would also like to thank passers-by who alerted us to the fire. We were in the back portion of our residence and unaware that a fire was burning so near our home and another residence on our property.

It appears that the fire was started by a cigarette discarded for a passing vehicle which ignited dry straw, the mail box then the woods.
