Effingham County rallies past rival South Effingham in season opener, 5-4

SPRINGFIELD, Ga. — Shelby Ziegler’s three-run double off the center field fence sparked a five-run fifth inning as Effingham County rallied to beat rival South Effingham 5-4 in Wednesday’s softball season opener.

A packed crowd watched the Rebels erase a two-run deficit behind strong performances from Ziegler and Ansleigh Giordano, who earned the win in the circle and added three hits at the plate. ECHS finished with 10 hits.

South’s Sydney Ragsdale launched a solo home run in the fourth, while Abbey Jordan and Makenzie Polk each collected two hits and an RBI for the Mustangs.
