SPRINGFIELD — Effingham County’s pipeline of athletes to the next level of competition is flowing strongly.

Pitcher Inaki Hutchinson on Friday became the latest to get a college shot as he inked a national letter of intent to attend Salem Community College in Carneys Point, New Jersey.

“It will be very exciting for him to be able to go up there and kind of put us on the map up there,” Effingham County athletic director Matt Huntley said. “He’s done some great things here at ECHS and we are extremely excited for him to go up there and play baseball, and represent our school and his family at Salem College, and also further his education there.”

On behalf of his staff, Rebels coach Ramsey expressed pride in Hutchinson’s accomplishment and his hard work. Hutchinson then announced the origin of his commitment.

“I just want to thank God for giving me this great opportunity,” he said. “I also want to thank my parents for always pushing me and putting so much money into my success.”

He also credited the Rebels’ coaches for their contribution to his achievement.

Hutchinson will have built-in fan support while playing for the Oaks. He has family members who live in New Jersey.
