Howe's walk-off hit completes Effingham County sweep

ATLANTA -- Griffin Howe's walk-off, run-scoring single in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Effingham County a 5-4 come-from-behind win over North Atlanta in Game 2, completing a sweep of the best-of-three series in the first round of the Class AAAAAA state baseball tournament.

In the first game, the Rebels, who trailed by four runs early, used seven walks and two hit batsmen to fuel an eight-run seventh inning and claim a wild 13-10 victory.

In the second game, ECHS trailed by three in the sixth inning, but tied the game in the bottom of the sixth and won it in the seventh on Howe's single.

The Rebels advanced to play at Pope High School in a second-round best-of-three series May 3-4.

Effingham County’s 56-42 loss to Houston County on Friday wasn’t just the season opener — it was the highest-scoring game in Rebels football history, with the teams combining for 98 points. 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗴𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼𝘀, 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀.
