Lady Mustangs gallop into winner's bracket

Cheyenne Miller knocked in a seventh-inning run with a single to propel South Effingham to a 3-2 win over Loganville in the Class AAAAA softball tournament in Columbus on Thursday.

Miller's heroic hit came right after Lady Mustangs pitcher Kastin Belogorska worked out of a serious jam. She kept the Lady Red Devils from scoring after they loaded the bases with no outs.

Belogorska made the key play during the inning, turning a comebacker into a double play. She fired the ball to catcher Natalie Easterling, who then threw to first base.

The Lady Mustangs were set to play Bainbridge later Thursday but the winner's-bracket game was rained out. They are set to try again Friday at 12:30 p.m.

Thomas County Central, Villa Rica, Locust Grove, Buford, Bainbridge and Walnut Grove are the other teams in the double-elimination event that is set to conclude Saturday.
