Lady Rebels complete sweep of rivals

SPRINGFIELD — The Effingham County Lady Rebels defeated the South Effingham Lady Mustangs in a non-region softball encounter Monday at Josh Reddick Stadium.

The 8-4 decision gave the Lady Rebels (22-3) a season sweep of their rivals. They beat them earlier 6-0 and 7-4.

Jaci Coleman and Francie Gaskin paced Effingham County with two hits and two RBI each. Morgan Coleman also had two hits, including a solo homer.

Alex Brown paced South (12-16), playing under interim head coach Todd Eubanks, with two hits. First-year head coach Samantha Tracy was relieved of her duties last week.

Rylee Mills hurled the first four innings for the Lady Rebels, giving up seven hits and four runs. Julia Carter worked three hitless frames.

Hailey Maruca and Haylee Johnson pitched for South.

With nearly 700 kills and more than 230 blocks in her career, she enters her senior year committed to Towson University and determined to lead the Mustangs back to the state tournament.
