Newberry slaps game-ending double

MILLEDGEVILLE -- The Georgia College softball tteam (10-20, 2-8 PBC) picked up a 5-4 seventh-inning walk-off victory over USC Aiken (18-15, 5-8 PBC), Saturday at the Peeler Complex. 

 

The Bobcat bats came alive for the first time in conference play as they had three multi-hit players. Carlie Behan (Cumming) went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles. Divina Checo (Marietta) had her first collegiate moon shot over the left field net as she went 2-for-3. Sydney Newberry (Springfield) hit .500 on the day, including a walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh.

 

The Bobcats started their scoring in the second inning on a solo shot from Checo. She came back in the third inning to plate two more runs on a double. The bats went quiet until the sixth inning where the Bobcats tied the game at four on an Eliza Kuhne (Sharpsburg) single to left to score Behan. The final run of the game came off the double from Newberry. .

 

The Bobcats went three pitchers deep. Macy Banks (Homer) got the start in the circle. Banks allowed two earned runs on five hits and three strikeouts in her five innings of work. Montana Ledbetter (Hanna City, Illinois) came in as the second reliever and picked up the win (4-4). She fanned four batters allowing no runs on one hit.
