GUYTON -- South Effingham tallied two runs in each of the first three innings and added three more in the fifth frame en route to a 9-1 softball victory over Wayne County on Saturday.
The Lady Mustangs, off to a 3-1 start, banged 10 hits, including triples by Avery Roddenberry and Caraline Stone. Roddenberry scored three times.
Mattie Turner led South Effingham with three hits and two RBI. Alex Brown added two safeties and Chloe Turner also drove in a pair of runs.
Bailey Kendziorski was the winning pitcher. She worked all five innings and notched seven strikeouts. Seventy-six percent of her first pitches to batters sent for strikes.
