Rachel Solomon scored with 18 minutes to go in the first half, giving the Bluffton Lady Bobcats the lead for good in a 2-0 win over South Effingham on Tuesday afternoon.

Solomon got a pass from April Cathcart and fired a shot from 12 yards out past Lady Mustangs keeper Melissa Wilkins.
Sally Newsham also scored for Bluffton (5-4).

Lady Bobcats Emily Strickland preserved the shutout when she leaped to deflect a direct kick from Lauren Wheeler from just outside the 18-yard box. Wheeler had been fouled by Bluffton’s Laura Roseberry, leading to the free kick.

The game was delayed late in the first half by a lightning threat.

In the boys game, the Bobcats (9-4-1) got two goals each from Kenny Vargas and David Servin in beating the Mustangs 6-1. South Effingham fell to 5-7 with the loss.

South Effingham travels to Liberty County on Friday to conclude its Region 3-AAA regular season.
