Cooper delivers in clutch for Mustangs

Mustangs Caleb Radcliffe and twins Chase and Jayce Warren celebrate Monday's win over Statesboro.

Phillip Cooper socked a seventh-inning single that propelled the South Effingham Mustangs (11-9, 4-0) to a 4-3 Region 2-AAAAA baseball victory over Statesboro on Monday in Guyton.

The contest had been tied since the fifth inning since the Blue Devils rallied for three runs.

Josh Berg picked up the pitching win in relief of Hunter Morgan. Berg worked 2 2/3 innings, allowing two hits and one run with three strikeouts. He also walked three.

Jayce and Chase Warren led South Effingham with two hits apiece. Jayce Warren and Brice Ogle joined Cooper with an RBI each.
