Goldwire sparks Lady Rebels

Sierra Goldwire scored 20 points to lead the Effingham County Lady Rebels basketball team to a 41-32 win over Fairfield (S.C.) in the Taco Bell Classic in Columbia, S.C.

Kyana Barber and Kaitlyn Dickey each added eight points for the Lady Rebels (6-2).

Against the Washington County Lady Golden Hawks, the Lady Rebels rolled to an easy 60-30 win Friday night. Shaniqua Goldwire scored 16 points to lead the way, while Kyana Barber had 14 points and Sierra Goldwire added 12 points.

Marie Fogle added nine points, Skky Bean had seven and Whitney Roberson scored two points.

Shakima Wiggins led Washington County with 15 points.

Rebels boys run into powerhouses in Albany

The Dougherty Trojans flexed their muscle early and rolled to a 75-38 win over the Effingham County Rebels in the Good Life City Classic in Albany on Saturday.

Bryan Bryant scored 33 points for the Trojans (7-1).

The South Gwinnett Comets, behind 13 points from Mario Vasser, beat the Rebels 63-46 in the first round Friday.
Xavier Chargois added 10 for the Class AAAAA Comets.

Effingham hosts Ware County on Jan. 4 and South Effingham on Jan. 5.
