Glynn shoots past ECHS boys

Glynn Academy hit 59 percent of its shots from the field and broke open a close game in the second quarter, beating the Effingham County Rebels 73-46 in the Region 3-AAAA basketball opener for both teams.

The Rebels (1-3) trailed by five after the first quarter before the Red Terrors (4-1) pulled away with a 24-14 run in the second.

Perry Herbert led all scorers with 18 points for the Rebels. Nolan Spake had 11 points, Stephen Tarpley scored nine, Marquel Manior had four, Cameron Spake had two points and Jonathan Duff scored one point.

Thomas Vonashek and Aaron Gittings each scored 14 points to lead the Terrors. Four Red Terrors finished in double figures as Jarre Hall had 11 points and Dominique Holton had 10 points.

Effingham County goes on the road to play Screven County on Friday night.
