There will be a girls fast-pitch softball showcase event to be held at Georgia Southern University on Jan. 26-27.

The “Southern Star” is an individual showcase event and is for any girl of high school age from anywhere in the country who wants to showcase their individual talents in front of college coaches in game situations. This is not an instructional camp. This is strictly an all-star type showcase event to be hosted by South Georgia Softball on the campus of Georgia Southern and is not associated with nor a tryout for GSU.

Only 140 slots are available.  College coaches at all levels from Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina and Florida are already planning to attend. This is the first such event of this type in this area. The event has been tailor made and designed by college coaches and is in a format that they have asked for.

Each team will have a manager and a current college softball player with them at all times to help with the games and to answer questions about the recruiting process and the life of a college softball player.

For more information and the entry form, you can go to the Web site www.southernstarsoftball.com.

This is open to current seniors, juniors, sophomores and freshmen who may want to play in college. Space is limited, so apply as soon as possible. Each player will play in games on Saturday night and Sunday. Special arrangements can be made for girls playing high school basketball on Jan. 26.

The deadline to enter is Jan. 10. Players will be picked and teams will be named by Jan. 15.
