Augusta’s Lee Knox fired a final-round 3-under 69 to hold off charging Chase Parker for the Georgia State Golf Association’s men’s amateur championship Sunday.

Knox finished at 5 under for the tournament, played at the Deer Creek course at The Landings on Wilmington Island. Parker posted a 65 to finish at 4-under par. Only seven of the 73 golfers to make the weekend in the four-day event broke par in Sunday’s final round.

Knox, who plays for the University of Alabama, finished 10 shots in front of his father, Jeff Knox. The elder Knox, who finished tied for 11th, is a three-time runner-up at the state amateur championship.

Peter Brennan of Rincon finished in a six-way for 49th at 15 over, following a final-round 76. Brennan had three birdies over the first five holes Sunday. He ran off a stretch of four birdies in five holes in Friday’s second round, which led to a 1-over 73.

Matt Morris of Rincon did not make the cut of 153 after back-to-back rounds of 78 for a two-day total of 156.

Only three players, including Savannah’s Doug Hanzel, finished under par for the tournament.
