GUYTON, Ga. — Danni Lynn and Justine Nevels powered South Effingham with home runs, and pitcher Cheniyah Jackson threw a six-hitter as the No. 8 Mustangs rolled past No. 6 Effingham County 7-0 on Wednesday night.

The victory avenged South Effingham’s season-opening loss to its crosstown rival.

Lynn set the tone in the first inning with a solo homer, giving the Mustangs an early spark. In the third, Makenzi Polk delivered a two-run single to highlight a three-run frame that stretched the lead to 4-0.

Nevels, celebrating her 17th birthday, added to the momentum with a fifth-inning home run. Alyssa Martin also had a big night at the plate, collecting three doubles and an RBI.

Jackson was dominant in the circle, striking out five and walking just one. After the second inning, she didn’t allow a runner to advance past first base.

With the win, South Effingham improved to 6-1. Effingham County slipped to 5-3.
