Glynn Academy broke out to a first-half lead and held on to beat the Effingham County Lady Rebels in a 53-41 loss for Effingham in its Region 3-AAAA opener Friday night.

The Lady Rebels (4-1) trailed by one point going into the second quarter, but Glynn (5-0) opened an advantage with a 19-9 run.

Kyana Barber led Effingham County with 11 points while Sierra Goldwire added 10. Shaniqua Goldwire scored nine, Marie Fogle had five, Whitney Roberson had four and Skky Beach scored two points.

Baiesha Johnson had a game-high 13 points for the Lady Red Terrors and Valencia Kelly added 10 points.

The Lady Rebels travel to Sylvania on Friday to take on Screven County.
