Men’s Cross Country
Hank Campbell (Darton State College) — A sophomore, Campbell was third at the Region XVII Cross Country Championships, posting a time of 26:28 and trailing only two of his teammates. The Cavaliers won the region title, and Campbell earned first-team all-region honors. The Cavaliers will run in the NJCAA Championships on Nov. 10 at Rend Lake, Ill..
Women’s Cross Country
Taylor Hall (Darton State College) — Hall is a sophomore on the Cavaliers cross country team, which won the Region XVII championship and advanced to the NJCAA Championships.
Football
Tovar Allen (Alabama State University) — The Hornets (6-3, 6-2 SWAC) beat Prairie View 35-21 Saturday. The Hornets, tied for first in the SWAC East, will visit Southern (La.) University on Nov. 10.
Fielder Heard (LaGrange College) — Heard is a freshman kicker and punter for the Panthers, who lost 48-24 to Ferrum (Va.) on Saturday. The Panthers (3-6) visit Greensboro (N.C.) on Nov. 10.
Justin McIntyre (LaGrange College) — McIntyre, a freshman linebacker, had two tackles, one for a loss, and forced a fumble in the Panthers’ loss to Ferrum. He has been chosen the team’s special teams player of the week three times.
Women’s soccer
Sydnie Van Curen (Georgia Southern University) — Van Curen netted the golden goal in penalty kicks, lifting GSU to a win over Furman in the Southern Conference championship game. The Eagles became the first eighth seed to win the conference title.
A sophomore, she is tied for the team lead with five goals and also has one assist. The Eagles are now 10-7-5 overall.
Marissa Hamm (University of South Carolina Beaufort) — The Sand Sharks’ season ended with an 8-0 loss to St. Thomas in the opening round of the Sun Conference tournament, held in Miami Gardens, Fla. Hamm finished her freshman season with three goals and started 11 games, including the last five consecutively.
