The New York Mets selected former Effingham County High School ace left-hander Zach Dotson with the 404th pick overall in Major League Baseball's first-year player draft Wednesday.

Dotson, who has signed a letter of intent with the University of Georgia, was chosen in the 13th round.

"I think it's an exciting time for Zach and his family and for Effingham County baseball," said Rebels coach Brett Griffin. "We're proud of everything he has done."

The Kansas City Royals selected Statesboro High left-hander Crawford Simmons with the 422nd pick. Simmons, the son of former ECHS baseball coach Jim Simmons, has signed with Georgia Tech.
