Mustangs take two against Phoenix

South Effingham (15-11) swept a Region 2-AAAAA home doubleheader against New Hampstead on Thursday 10-1 and 6-2.

In the opener, Nick Milbrandt, Hunter Morgan and Jakob Valleroy combined to limit the Phoenix to two hits. Milbrandt worked the first 4 2/3 frames, notching six strikeouts.

Valleroy and Phillip Cooper were stars at the plate as each swatted three hits. Valleroy had four RBI. Cooper knocked in one run and scored two.

Dylan Wallace  chipped in a pair of hits and scored twice.

In the second game, Cooper racked up three more hits and Caleb Radcliffe, Nick Duke and Jayce Warren each added two. Duke had two RBI.

Only five of the Mustangs' runs were earned as the Phoenix committed six errors.

Valleroy was the winning pitcher, allowing four hits and both runs. He struck out 10.

Jakob Gross got the final out.
