SAVANNAH — There were plenty of reasons for Effingham County’s cross country team to celebrate Saturday.

No, they didn’t win a race or even place in the top 10. The Rebel runners accomplished a task that had not been completed in more than two years — running a race as a team.

The boys and girls runners both completed the 5K at the Arts in the Park race at Daffin Park. Cross country coach Mick Danielson could not be more proud of his team.

“They ran great. I’m very happy,” he said. “This is the first time we competed as boys and girls in years and I could not ask for more. It’s a good way to start the season.”

Official results were unavailable, but Danielson said that all his boys ran in the low-mid 20s, while his girls ran in the mid 20s-low 30s.
