Rebels post successive shutouts of Knights

The Effingham County Rebels blanked the Evans Knights in back-to-back home baseball games Friday.

After rolling to a 10-0 win in the opener, the Rebels (10-3) eked out a 1-0 victory in the nightcap when closer Ryan Harley induced a double play to end the contest.

It was the Rebels' third straight shutout and fourth in their last five games.

Merrit Evans was the winning pitcher in Game 2. He allowed seven hits in 6 1/3 innings. 

Chrys Hawks drove in the game's lone run. JR Lonon paced the Rebels with two hits.

In the opener, Effingham County got at least two hits each from Christian Campbell, Jordan Rahn, Jerid Stokes and Lonon. Lonon added two RBI and Harley, Rahn, Stokes, Austin Mealor and Chandler Hinely each had one.

Avery Elenbaas was the winning pitcher, allowed five hits in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out three and walked three.

Garrett Miller completed the shutout.
