SPRINGFIELD -- Effingham County dispatched Metter and Islands in a pair of non-region baseball games at Rebel Field on Saturday.

In the first contest against Metter, the Rebels exploded for nine third-inning runs en route an 11-4 win. The edged Islands 4-2 in the nightcap.

Effingham County's big inning in the opener featured RBIs by Jerid Stokes, Dustin Johnson, Chrys Hawkins, Ryan Harley and Merritt Evans.

Starter Garrett Miller was credited with the pitching victory. He allowed two hits and four runs over three innings. He logged three strikeouts.

Miller was succeeded on the mound by Austin Mealor and Ryan Harley.

Effingham County tallied 10 hits against the Tigers. Hawkins and Holden Fields had two each.

Against Islands, the Rebels got off to a quick start when Stokes hit a fielder's choice grounder that plated a run in the opening frame.

The Sharks briefly tied the game in their second at-bat but the Rebels moved in front for good after an RBI hit by Mealor and a bases loaded walk to Hawkins.

Evans was the winning pitcher, allowing two runs and four hits while going the distance. He fanned seven.

JR Lonon paced the Rebels with two hits.
