Rebels win slugfest in Statesboro

The Effingham County Rebels (12-3) pounded 14 hits and benefited from eight errors to defeat the Statesboro Blue Devils 16-11 in Statesboro on Wednesday.

Effingham County exploded for five runs in the opening frame but the Blue Devils answered with six. 

The Rebels, who tallied six unearned runs, moved back in front with a two-run second frame and managed to hold the lead the rest of the way.

Jordan Rahn and JR Lonon led the winners with three hits apiece. Rahn drove in a pair of runs and score twice. Lonon scored three times and knocked in a run.

Ryan Harley and Dustin Johnson each had two hits for the Rebels. One of Johnson's hits was a homer. He collected three RBI.

Garrett Miller was the winning pitcher. He entered in the first frame after starter Avery Elenbaas exited trailing 6-0 without recording an out.

Miller gave up two runs on seven hits in six frames before leaving for Chrys Hawkins. Hawkins surrendered three runs on three hits.
