Salisbury leads SEHS runners

The South Effingham High School cross country teams will take to a well-worn course Saturday afternoon.

The boys and girls teams qualified for the state Class AAA meet, which will be held at the Carrollton High School course. The boys AAA meet will begin at 2:30 p.m. and the girls AAA meet, the final event of the day, will start at 3 p.m.

Susan Salisbury, the Region 3-AAA girls champ, will lead the Lady Mustangs, who placed third as a team. Salisbury ran a 19:42 at the Vidalia meet on Oct. 13, the 52nd fastest time turned in this year in the state. Caroline Kirk of Blessed Trinity has the best team among Class AAA runners this year, with a 19:19 at the Reebok Coach Wood Invitational.

Brad Boyd, who finished third at the region meet, leads the boys team, which was fourth overall. Boyd had a time of 17:57 at the region meet.

Charlie Sparks of Columbus High has the best time in AAA this year, and the second best in the state, at 15:24.

Blessed Trinity is the defending girls team champion and North Hall is the defending boys champion.
