South Effingham High School senior Susan Salisbury dusted the competition in the Shootout at Ebenezer cross country race Thursday.

Salisbury finished the 3.1-mile course in 22 minutes, 19 seconds, helping lead the Lady Mustangs to a second-place finish.

Salisbury beat the second-best runner — Ali Ramee of Savannah Country Day — by approximately a minute.

Two other Lady Mustang runners finished in the top 10. Alyssa Mastrianni finished fifth in 23:40 and Katie Pittman finished seventh in 24:03.

Other scorers for the Lady Mustangs included Shelli Clay finishing 30th at 26:37 and Charity Passailgue finishing 32nd at 26:39.

Kimberly Tabakian finished the race in 28:35.

The beast, what South Effingham affectionately calls the steep hill that runners must traverse twice, did not seem to present much of a problem to the home team runners. However, some of the other schools had a difficult time keeping pace.

More than 10 high schools competed in the race.

Boys results were not available.
