SEMS rolls to Mill Creek title

The South Effingham Middle School softball team went undefeated at the Mill Creek Invitational Tournament, outscoring its opposition 42-4 in four games.


SEMS opened the tourney with 17-0 win over Burke County, as Hailey Pinette allowed only one hit and struck out seven.


Emily Laverenz struck out 10 as South Effingham blanked Swainsboro 8-0. The Lady Mustangs outhit Swainsboro 10-2.


SEMS scored 10 runs in the first three innings to down Effingham County Middle. Kastin Belogorska fanned three over two hitless innings, and SEMS topped ECMS again in the championship game as Belogorska struck out seven and gave up only four hits and no earned runs in six innings.


The Lady Mustangs offense piled up 33 hits in the tournament, with Alexa Johanson getting seven. Belagorska had four hits, Pinette, Courtney Cubbedge, Georgia Dowling and Mallori Jenkins each had three hits, Katelynn Hodges, Allie Ergle and Francie Gaskin had two hits each and Kylie Bohl, Krysten Hodges, Lauren Conaway and Madi Goff had one hit each. Pinette and Hodges each had a triple, and Dowling added a double.
