Several Rebels earn all-region honors

Several Effingham County High School athletes were named to all-Region 3-AAAA teams in their respective sports this week.

Senior Chris Hamilton, who split time at quarterback and running back, was named to the all-region football team as a running back. He rushed for 542 yards and five touchdowns. Senior offensive lineman Nick Brant, senior linebacker Daniel Mungin and senior defensive lineman Emir Davis also were named to the all-region team.

The Lady Rebels softball team also placed two players on the all-region squad — senior catcher Marie Fogle and junior pitcher Shelby Duff.

Alyssa McBride and Sarah Quarterman were named to the all-region volleyball team.

The region football most valuable player was Ware County senior Victor Daniels. Evans quarterback Kevin Millward was the offensive MVP and Statesboro defensive tackle DeAngelo Tyson was the defensive MVP. Glynn Academy senior Brett Bearden was the special teams MVP and Evans junior Brandon McCladdie was the all-purpose player.

Greenbrier’s Ashlyn Masters was the softball player of the year for 3-AAAA and Evans’ Jenny Shepherd was named the pitcher of the year.

Abbie Mizell, Rochel Oglesby and Kristin Johnson were named to the all-region cheerleading team from ECHS.
