South Effingham rallies for championship series split

GUYT0N — After getting decked 2-0 in the first game of Wednesday’s Region 2-AAAAA championships series, South Effingham dusted itself off and floored Statesboro, winning 10-2.

Hailey Pinette and Allie Ergle each hit home runs in the Lady Mustangs’ win that forced a deciding home game Thursday at 6 p.m.

The Lady Mustangs (21-5), limited to two hits in the opener, trailed 2-0 in the second contest before finally getting untracked. Their scored at least once in the final frames, including six in the seventh.

Pinette’s homer was a two-run blast in the fourth inning. Cheyenne Miller and Kastin Belogorska also drove in two runs apiece.

Ergle’s circuit clout was a solo shot.

Belogorska pitched both games, totaling 13 strikeouts without a walk.
