Three Effingham County student-athletes were among the school-record 77 from Armstrong Atlantic State University to be named to the Peach Belt Conference’s Presidential Honor Roll for 2009-10.

 

Student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher (on a 4.00 scale) for the entire 2009-10 academic year to be honored. Student-athletes with GPAs from 3.0-3.24 were named Presidential Scholars; from 3.25-3.49 are Bronze Scholars; from 3.5-3.74 are Silver Scholars; and Gold Scholars are those with GPAs from 3.75-4.0.

 

Rising sophomore Shelby Duff, an Effingham County High School grad, was named a Silver Scholar. The pitcher and utility player for the Pirates softball team is undecided in major.

 

Senior Brandon McCreery, a South Effingham High School grad and a pitcher on the Pirates baseball team, was named a Bronze Scholar. McCreery is majoring in rehabilitation sciences. This is the third time McCreery has earned Honor Roll distinction.

 

Sophomore Jesse Osborne, also a South Effingham grad, was named to the Presidential Scholars list. Osborne, a pitcher on the Pirates baseball team, is majoring in physical therapy.

 

The number eclipses the previous high of 74 Honor Roll honorees during the 2006-07 year, and four seniors — women’s soccer player Kristin Burton, volleyball player Nicole Yates and women’s tennis players Martina Beckmann and Alisa Kagukina — finished their AASU careers by being named to the Honor Roll four times.

 

In all, 1,080 student-athletes were named to the PBC Presidential Honor Roll from the 13 league schools.
