Thunder breezes to March Madness crown

The Georgia Thunder 12U fast pitch softball team took first place in the WFC March Madness Tournament, held in Brunswick.  
The Effingham County-based team, coached by Bill Denney, captured the title with aggressive hitting, strong pitching and sound defensive play.

In the first game, the Thunder beat the Lady Bears 10-7. Morgan Duff was the winning pitcher. Jordan Fogle was 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs scored, Taylor Ross was 1-for-3 with one RBI and a run scored, Dani Heald was 3-for-3 with a double and a homer, driving in three runs, Shelby Dowling was 2-for-3 with two steals and one RBI and Brooke Brabham was 1-for-2 with one RBI.

The Thunder then beat Thunder 98 9-2, with Sammy Mault getting the win. Fogle was 2-for-2, Duff was 1-for-2 with one RBI, Ross was 1-for-3 and drove in a run, Heald was 1-for-2 with one RBI, Josey Denney went 2-for-2, Alexis Studier was 2-for-3 with one RBI and Brooke Brabham was 1-for-2. Fogle, Duff and Heald each scored two runs.

Duff got the win in the circle as the Thunder beat the Jacksonville Storm 8-2. Heald was 2-for-2 with one RBI while Kelsea Hunter was 2-for-2. Dowling went 1-for-2 and drove in two runs, Studier was 1-for-1 with one RBI and scored two runs and Denney was 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Duff also got the win in the finale, a 6-3 victory over the Southern Explosion. Heald went 2-for-2 with a double and triple and drove in three runs. Studier was 2-for-2 with a triple and one RBI, Ross was 1-for-2 with one RBI, Mault was 1-for-2 with one RBI and Hunter went 2-for-2.
