Wayne County emerged victorious in a 1-0 pitchers' duel against South Effingham in Guyton on Wednesday.

Four Mustangs pitchers, led by starter Jakob Valleroy, limited the Yellow Jackets to just five hits. Wayne County's Jasper Stanfield and Gant Starling, however, surrendered just three hits in the contest that left the teams tied atop Region 2-AAAAA with 8-3 records.

The Yellow Jackets, 16-12 overall, got their lone run in the fourth inning. Stanfield delivered it with a single that plated David Moseley. Mosely opened the frame with a single. and stole second before advancing to third base on a sacrifice fly.

Valleroy worked the first five frames before relinquishing the mound to Jakob Gross, Nick Milbrandt and Jayce Warren.

Valleroy, Brice Ogle and Dylan Wallace got the hits for South Effingham, which dipped to 17-12.
