SPRINGFIELD -- Zach Wert smacked a two-out grand slam in the sixth inning to lift South Effingham to a come-from-behind 8-5 victory over Effingham County Wednesday night.
The Mustangs (19-7) evened the three-game series with the rubber match in Guyton on Friday.
Effingham County (13-13) sent eight batters to the plate in the first inning and erased a 2-0 deficit with five runs.
South Effingham pitcher Kaleb Johnson settled down and finished without allowing an earned run over six innings. He struck 11 and walked none.
Johnson also had three hits and gave his team some breathing room with a two-run single in the final frame.
