In order to be consistent with the Georgia State Board of Education, state Rep. Jon Burns has introduced a bill to the Legislature that will amend an act reconstituting the Board of Education of Effingham County.

The amended act will read as follows:

“Section 1-2.  In order to be eligible for election to the Board of Education of Effingham County, a candidate shall at the time of his or her election:

1. Be a United States citizen and a citizen of the State of Georgia;

2. Have been a resident of Effingham County for at least 12 months immediately preceding the date of the election; and

3. Be at least 21 years of age.

In addition, at the time such candidate qualifies to seek election to the Board of Education of Effingham County, such person shall be a resident of the education district that he or she seeks to represent.”
