Effingham County’s high schools brought home a pair of competition cheerleading region championships over the weekend.

Effingham County High won the Region 3-AAAAA title and South Effingham captured the Region 3-AAAA crown in the competitions held at Toombs County Middle School.

The ECHS and SEHS squads cheered each other on during the competition, and posed together for photos after both claimed their respective region championships.

“The girls are very supportive of each other and we have relatives between the two teams, so it’s great that they are able to cheer on each other even with the county rivalry,” said ECHS coach Katie Ward.

South Effingham and Effingham County will compete Saturday in Columbus for the state title. The Class AAAA competition will start at 9 a.m., followed by AAAAA at 2 p.m.

The state championships will be streamed online at www.nfhsnetwork.com/channels/georgia.
