Effingham Christian School celebrated Johnny Appleseed Day on Sept. 24 by planting trees around the campus playground. Students and teachers commemorated the day by dressing in overalls, flannel shirts, and straw hats. Johnny Appleseed was a folk hero born in 1774, just before the start of the American Revolution. He was deliberate in planting orchards to give farmers a livelihood and to provide food for their communities. Students learned about the importance of working together to accomplish a common goal to improve our environment through agriculture.
