Lang, Wostbrock earn dean's list honors at Berry

Berry College students who excelled in the classroom during the spring semester have been named to the dean’s list, according to Berry Provost Thomas E. Dasher. The dean’s list honors students who posted an academic average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale while carrying a class load of at least 12 hours during the semester.

Locally, two students qualified for the dean’s list; Robert George Lang and Sarah Elizabeth Wostbrock.

Lang is the son of George and Mechelle Lang of Springfield and is majoring in history. Wostbrock is the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth Wortbrock of Guyton and is double majoring in Spanish and government.

Berry College is an independent, coeducational college of approximately 2,000 undergraduate and graduate students that is ranked among the best institutions of its type in the Southeast.

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
