Moore named to dean's list

Meredith G. Moore of Rincon was named to the dean’s list at Carson-Newman College for the spring semester.

To be named to the dean’s list, a student must complete at least 12 credit hours of work and maintain a grade point average of at least 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale.

The announcement was made by Dr. Michael E. Arrington, Provost.

Effingham School Board Approves $203M budget with Potential Property Tax Increase

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
