Panther Fest set for Oct. 29

Effingham County Middle School will be hosting its annual fall festival event, the 2011 Panther Fest Gift and Craft Bazaar, on Oct. 29 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the school, located at 1659 Highway 119 South in Springfield.

The festival is a day for friends and families to get together and enjoy a variety of games, food and entertainment.

If your business or service organization would like to participate, please contact Mariella Manhatton at 772-7001 or mmanhatton@effingham.k12.ga.us as soon as possible. The cost for a booth is $20 for the first booth and $15 for each additional booth. There is no charge for community service organizations.

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
