Montrez Johnson is Sand Hill Elementary School’s top speller for the 2013-14 school year.

Johnson, a fifth-grader, won the school’s spelling bee Friday. He correctly spelled "elevator" as his final word.

Dylan Gaines was the runner-up.

All fourth- and fifth-grade students participated in spelling bees in their Language Arts classes and the winners advanced to the school bee.

Along with Johnson and Gaines, the participants in the SHES spelling bee were Skie Crowe, Anthony Harrelson, Abby McGee, Kameron Owsley, Emily Savage and Kaydin Spear.
