SEHS cadets sweep away competition at rifle team meet

The South Effingham High School NJROTC rifle team traveled to Augusta on Jan. 10 to sweep away the competition at the West Ashley High School rifle team meet.

The cadets arrived at the competition at around 10:30 a.m. The team was the second relay to shoot out of three. The cadets shot from three positions, standing, kneeling and prone, and brought home a first place trophy with a score of 1,060 out of 1,200.

The commander of the team, Cadet Chris Morgan, shot (scored) 270 points out of 300, giving him the highest score of any cadet at the meet and earning a gold medal.

Cadets Cole Hudson, Drake DePremi and Rebecca Stratton followed closely with scores of 269, 261 and 265, respectively. Hudson also received a bronze medal for scoring third highest of any cadet at the meet.

The team competed against 15 other teams from the surrounding area.
