Recently, South Effingham Middle School students participated in the National Geographic Bee.

Students were asked questions on a variety of different levels. Questions range from the students’ knowledge of geographic features in various parts of the world to state capitals as well as international capitals. Eight students participated in the final school round. One student from those eight qualified to take the state exam. Donald Quinones took the state exam and had been invited to participate in the state bee to be held on April 4 in Milledgeville. If he wins at the state level, he could travel to Washington, D.C., to participate in the National Geography Bee on May 21-22.

Quinones is a seventh grader at SEMS. He is the son of Steve and Cindy Quinones of Guyton.
