South Effingham High School will host the sixth annual NJROTC 5K to raise funds for th organization. The 5K race will be held Oct. 3 at the SEHS Corral, beginning at 9 a.m.

The entry fee is $15 per participant through Sept. 19. After Sept. 19, the fee increases to $20 per participant. Runners can register online at www.active.com for $20. A convenience fee applies. Prizes include gift cards to the overall male and female winners and medals for the top three finishers in each age group.

“Because of the cutbacks in the Navy, we have received approximately $4,000 less this eyar, said Lt. Col. Terry Stautberg. “If we want to keep the same activities and keep them affordable to all, I need your help.”

He made parents and cadets aware of the need through email and at the annual NJROTC picnic, one of the many activities sponsored by the organization.

Sponsorships are available in any amount. However, a $50 donation gets a name or company posted at the start/finish line, while a $100 donation will allow a company logo to be put on the shirt given to every runner and on the course sign. Shirt logos must be received by Sept. 13.

The funds are used to defray costs for cadets to participate in the many activities throughout the year. These activities include regional drill competitions, orienteering competitions and marksmanship or rifle competitions.
