The Effingham County Board of Education and Effingham Herald saluted the county’s top teachers Wednesday at the 2012-13 Teacher of the Year Banquet.
“We think the world of you. We appreciate the job our Teachers of the Year do each and every day,” Superintendent Randy Shearouse said.
The ceremony’s finale was recognition of Ebenezer Middle’s Teacher of the Year, Mark Weese, as the countywide Teacher of the Year.
Also honored were the following Teachers of the Year:

Effingham County High – Thomas Carnes
Effingham County Middle – Johnathan McCoy
Guyton Elementary – Sarah Farmer
Marlow Elementary – Emily Faerber
Rincon Elementary – Christy Poole
Sand Hill Elementary – Betsy Kessler
South Effingham Elementary – Melissa Long
South Effingham High – Ray Ellis
South Effingham Middle – Hursula Pelote
Springfield Elementary – Bonnie Miles
“The school system is better because of the teachers we have. We appreciate you,” Board of Education Chairman Lamar Allen said.
For 13 weeks, starting this month, a Teacher of the Year will be featured in the Tuesday edition of the Effingham Herald.
