The faculty and staff at Rincon Elementary School are pleased to announce their March “Parents of the Month.” They are Shae and Jay Wilcox, parents of Justin Wilcox, who is a third grade student in Brenda Brown’s class at RES. They are also the parents of Kayla, who is a student at Effingham County High School.

Mr. and Mrs. Wilcox were nominated because of their commitment to spending time with their children, helping them grow socially, emotionally and academically.

Once moving to Rincon, they were instrumental in seeing that Justin had a smooth transition to Rincon Elementary. They corresponded weekly to discuss Justin’s struggles, ways to improve his class performance and the strengths that he possesses. As the year has progressed, “they are continuously involved with improving his reading comprehension and language skills with nightly readings,”
Brown said.

Mr. and Mrs. Wilcox said they enjoyed spending time with their children. They provide a structured environment, but the children also have time to enjoy doing things they like to do.

“One mistake in our parenting was ‘not being consistent with a bed time,’” the Wilcoxes said. Their ambition for their children is for them “to be happy.”

They will be recognized at the next PTA meeting on April 7.
