Jack and Myrtice (Johnson) Carter are celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary. They were married in Baxley on Dec. 13, 1958.

There are two sides to the story of how they met. Myrtice says she was swinging on her front porch when Jack and his friend (whom Myrtice already knew) stopped in her yard and asked for directions. Jack’s version of the story is that he and his friend were driving by Myrtice’s house and she yelled from the front porch for them to turn around and “come back, come back.” Only the two of them and the friend know the true story, and each swears their version is the truth.

Jack and Myrtice have four children: Darrell Carter, Karen Carter Porter, Joel Carter and Lora Carter Murdaugh. They also have 10 grandchildren whom they love and adore: Wesley, Leia, Rachel, Harley, Hunter, Carter, Walker, Gabrielle, Joelie and Waylon.

Jack is the owner of Jack Carter Construction Company and is still working every day. Myrtice is a retired school bus driver and is now enjoying her time at home doing whatever she wants. They both enjoy spending time with their children and grandchildren, playing Bingo every Tuesday night and spending the afternoons riding around their land on their golf cart.

Their children and grandchildren express their love and wish them many more anniversaries to come.
